Nothing Says Summer like...
Korfbal, Festivals & Flashbacks

We're already half-way 2017. This weekend several of the bands we support start their festival-season. Saturday Baby Galaxy plays the brilliant Maifeld Derby in Mannheim (Germany). Sunday The Homesick goes on 'Youth Hunt' at the Safaripark around Best Kept Secret. We are starting our weekend at the grassroots Not Another Festival in DB's Utrecht, to see The Fire Harvest and Zea.

We made a digital compilation-tape called The Glove Compartment. We'll regularly invite someone to add and/or delete songs from the playlist. The first external-curator was Gerben Houwer (The Fire Harvest). Also, we're hosting a monthly show on Rotterdam's Operator Radio. Stream our first edition here. On August 12 we're hosting our annual hootenanny in VERA Groningen; save the date.

Below a preview and a flashback. See you soon!

The explosive quartet with members of The Homesick, Creepy Karpis, Yuko Yuko & Rats on Rafts has been shaking up the scene for almost a year now. Last week 'Attak', the first single of the forthcoming 'Hitkrant' cassette/EP, was premiered by 3voor12. It is streaming on Soundcloud, just click the image below. This Summer they'll play the idyllic Welcome to the Village and in Autumn you'll probably see them during the Popronde, since they were drafted by all three mediapartners. #GemengdDouchen

Yesterday De Volkskrant published a big interview with Arnold de Boer [Zea] about his new album 'Moarn gean ik dea'. We've included the nice picture below and you can read it here. His first album in Frisian got great reviews, for instance by De Subjectivisten. Arnold also made a couple of new videos for album tracks, like this one for It Dockumer Lokaeltsje-cover 'Wurch'.

Zea just came back from his Central European/Trans-Balkan Express tour with King Ayisoba and has several upcoming Dutch live-dates. This weekend in Utrecht (Saturday) and Haarlem (Sunday). On August 12 he joins the yearly Lepel & Subroutine Zomercafé in VERA.

In April noiserock-trio WOLVON released 'ease.', their second album. "Full of rumbling bass, crashing guitars and some seriously demented drumming, the second long player from these Dutch head-wreckers is one to play at ear-ringing volume" [Louder than War]. Pissed Jeans’ Matt Korvette wrote "thoughtful and colorful post-punk emo" and "sensitive-guy” music, which nearly brought us to tears (because it's true). Slowburner Waterworks and several other tracks are getting airplay on cool stations like RadioEins (Berlin). On August 17 WOLVON supports Preoccupations in EKKO. In the meantime the band is making some origami, honey.

Much has been said and written about 'Youth Hunt', the debut album of The Homesick. The story, however, is just getting started. Sunday they play Best Kept Secret festival, and they're also confirmed for Valkhof Festival, Into The Great Wide Open & Liverpool Psych Fest. They support Franz Ferdinand on two sold-out gigs, in Amsterdam and Antwerp, and in Autumn they embark on a European tour that will bring em to at least 14 countries. More soon. Until then #neverforget this timeless (re)appreciation of Gigi D'Agostino on live-radio.

We started 2017 with the amazing debut album 'Mighty Night' of Maastricht indierock trio Baby Galaxy. The album got many great reviews and the band is selected for this year's Popronde (together with Korfbal and The Avonden). Baby Galaxy already did a short German tour and this weekend they return to play the Maifeld Derby, together with Thurston Moore, American Football and Slowdive. We visited their release-show in Maastricht, which was documented in its entirity. Enjoy.
